SUDBURY RACE AMITY DAY - COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY DRIVE
Sudbury For Racial and Social Justice (S4RSJ) will recognize Sudbury Race Amity Day on Saturday, June 12, with a food drive to benefit the Sudbury Community Food Pantry.
The food pantry drive is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Peter Noyes School parking lot behind Town Hall. Mask and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
The Sudbury Food Pantry serves families in 76 cities and towns in MetroWest and beyond; for more information, see www.sudburyfoodpantry.org.
Some of the food pantry’s most-needed items include:
Pasta
Tomato products (sauce and diced) Mac & Cheese
Progresso soup/Chunky or other large canned soup
Boxed meals (Hamburger Helper, taco shells, boxed potatoes)
Peanut Butter & Jelly
Full size snacks (no individual serving-size) - crackers, cookies, chips
Boxed Rice
Condiments (salad dressing, ketchup, mustard, mayo)
Canned Beans (black, garbanzo, red kidney, baked)
Canned fruit (pineapple, peaches, pears)
“Again this year, we are unable to celebrate Race Amity Day with the kind of gathering we have held in the past,” said Tricia Brunner, member of the S4SRJ planning committee. “We had a wonderful response to our RAD food drive last year. We are eager to hold a similar event this year, at a time when we know the need has increased with the length of the pandemic. “
The Sudbury Race Amity Day Task Force has expanded its focus as Sudbury for Racial and Social Justice. Its goals include sponsoring an annual Race Amity Day Celebration in Sudbury. The Sudbury Race Amity Day Task Force was formed in 2018 by Dr. William H. "Smitty" Smith to establish an annual Race Amity Day celebration in Sudbury. Dr. Smith is a Sudbury resident, former principal of Ephraim Curtis Middle School, and the founding executive director of the National Center for Race Amity.
